Children's Eye Tests
Here at CATS we are keen for you to bring in your children for an eye examination.
In some areas children have a preschool assessment but for various reasons this does not always take place and although this will pick up most eye problems some can still be missed so a thorough eye examination by an optometrist is always advisable.

If you have concerns about your child’s eyes we encourage you to bring them along whatever their age. They don’t need to be able to read or know their letters we have a special chart with pictures on, and often we can obtain a result without obtaining a verbal response at all.
Even if a child isn’t experiencing problems at school it is still worthwhile bringing your child in as many childhood eye conditions are treatable if diagnosed at an early age and often a child is not aware they have a problem. They may think it is normal to see things blurry or have intermittent blurring or double vision and not think to mention it.

Highly Recommended!
CATS is a fantastic optometrist. They look after the eye care of my entire family and I would not consider going anywhere else. The whole CATS team is professional, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. My son recently had a badly infected eye out of hours, and Cathy the head optician was amazing. She did an immediate telephone assessment and had us referred to the hospital straight away. This ensured he got the treatment he needed straight away. I highly recommend CATS !!!

Contact Lenses for Children
There is a myth that children are unable to be fitted with contact lenses until they are a teenager or at high school this is not the case. Here at CATS we are willing to fit contact lenses to any child with a desire to be spectacle free for either general wear or specifically for sports.
We keep a close check on your child and regularly see them for after-care checks to ensure they are complying to the cleaning and handling regimes required. There really is no need to be worried.
It is often safer to wear contact lenses than spectacles especially for sports and dance, It can also improve self-esteem and confidence. Spectacles are always also required to provide a break from wearing contact lenses and for those times when contact lenses are not suitable.
Our staff are patient and will spend the time required to show your child and you how to put contact lenses in, how to remove them and care for them. We will ensure you and your child are able to do this confidently before you take any contact lenses home, even if several visits are required before you reach this.

Cathryn our optometrist fitted her own children at the age of 8 with contact lenses for part time wear as they were both keen at gym and dance and both short-sighted from an early age.
