What is OCT and why should I consider it?

We have invested in a state of the art Spectralis 4D HD scanner. This technology is used on board the International Space Station to check the health of astronaut’s eyes and now you too can have your eyes checked in the same way but here on earth!

The SPECTRALIS is an expandable diagnostic imaging platform which combines scanning laser fundus imaging with high resolution OCT (ocular coherence tomography). It is the instrument of choice for retinal specialists within the NHS. This offers so much more than a standard eye examination by taking it to another level. It employs the use of a high tech scanner to scan your eyes and look for very early signs of retinal disease such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and many more conditions. It can be used to monitor eye conditions closely for subtle changes not detectable by a standard eye test. This enables earlier detection and therefore earlier referral to prevent sight loss.

SPECTRALIS employs 4D technology measuring tiny changes in your eyes over time to 1/1000th millimetre, in exactly the same place at every visit by using a patented eye-tracking system.

It is non-invasive and completely painless. Even if you blink, it will still capture the scan.

We encourage everyone to upgrade to the enhanced eye examination, especially if you have a family history or any eye disease and for those of you over 40, as the relative risk of developing eye problems increases as we mature.

So why would you not want to ensure your eyes are healthy and try to preserve your sight for as long as you possibly can? We can provide peace of mind that comes with knowing your eyes are healthy and that we will see the smallest of changes long before you notice any symptoms?

After attending for an enhanced eye examination yesterday I would like to thank Cathy and her staff for making the experience  a very positive one.
Cathy was very thorough with her testing, also using state of the art equipment. She was open to answering any questions and concerns in a most professional manner.
Special mention to Ben who is always most helpful, friendly and offers great advice on choosing new spectacles.
Would wholeheartedly recommend CATS Optometrists without hesitation.
